Maricarmen Poster

Maricarmen is a Spanish restaurant in Manchester looking to put its mark on the local culinary scene. They've enlisted my help in making a poster for their first event promoting the Spanish, more mainly the Andalusian, food culture in Manchester.

The poster series was designed to introduce Feria de Abril, a week-long festival in Seville, Spain, celebrating the city’s vibrant culture through food, music, dance, and more, offering a glimpse of what attendees can look forward to at the event.

The posters below are my proposed drafts, designed to feature striking imagery paired with contrasting colors to grab the attention of onlookers. I explored diverse presentations of the event, showcasing elements such as traditional food, iconic clothing, and visuals tied to the festival’s vibrant atmosphere.

The initial designs ultimately were too flashy which then led to the client wanting to opt for clearer and simpler posters offering clear information about the event without revealing too much about the event aiming to surprise visitors on the day of the event.

So I went back and refined a poster with the feedback on hand. At the same time, the clients also asked to create 2 more posters based on some of the drafts that they liked, so using images that they have supplied I then made these drafts below.

With the event rapidly approaching, the option for a custom-painted poster was no longer feasible, so the clients decided to use photographic imagery instead. At this project stage, I narrowed down the design options and presented them to the clients, allowing them to select their top three choices for the final posters with a few tweaks to one of them.

These were then printed out and used for the event in leaflet form and used online to promote the event however, I still gave mockups to the client as a way of portraying what was possible promotion-wise in different formats.

It was a pleasure seeing the project from the start of brainstorming ideas up to the end of the event being able to see the results in person. Special thank you to the team over at Maricarmen for putting on an awesome show and showcasing the culture of Spain to the people of Manchester.
